ECU compatibility between models

Here is another question: Will an APR EPROM work in any S4 ECU?
I have an APR EPROM that needs a 'home'. I am working on buying a stock ECU, but the seller is slow to respond.
My goal is to solder the APR EPROM in, borrow a home programmer, see what programs are on it and reset the security code (if applicable) and then sell it.

with APR, you can download their latest code and update it yourself with the home programmer
potentially, you could get the MAF conversion from VAST (of course, their kit includes a code update, if you are on GIAC) and flash your chip with M software if their home programmer program will allow you....its possible, Im not sure they allow it for the sake of keeping ignorant customers from screwing something up.

Since all of BBB's posts are gone, I'll respond here. You asked what was involved in a Hitachi Conv
Check out <a href="http://vastperformance.com/products/intake.php">VAST Performance's</a> website.
They sell a Hitachi Conversion that includes a free update to GIAC Code. I'd recommend calling them. You could get a stock ECU, send it to them and have them GIAC-it and ship you the Hitachi stuff at the same time. Then all you would have to do is login to the ECU and disable ESP.
Or you could just get your current ECU chipped. It would be cheaper and much less hassle.

Thanks for the summation.
I have to wonder what I missed out on with all that stuff getting wiped out. I will likely go through with just chipping the ECU I have.

I'd love to make mine the home... However, since it's a daily driver - I couldn't afford the downtime and risk involved with such a project. Maybe in the old days when I had time to experiment more..

Re: You are limited to 2.7T TIPs with Bosch MAF Sensors and no ESP
Kind of answered my own question here. Apparently the swap to a Hitachi MAF isn't so tough to perform. Found this:
