Default Ecu soft coding

Hi guys, I am trying to recode two ecu's but no luck. I log in with 11463, and try to recode one ecu from 06751 to 06711 but the vag-com wont accept any changes. I tried other login codes, but no luck. I tried this on two different ecu's, an L box and an M box. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
TIA!

Default What transmission does this car have?

Which ECU were you originally trying to recode from 06751 to 06711?

Default I know exactly what you're doing wrong.

You're trying to change the soft coding of an L-Box (tip) ECU to an M-Box (6spd) ECU. You CANNOT do this. This is why the ECU is not accepting the 06711. Right now if you were to try changing it to 06651 (for an 00 tip), it would work. But you cannot change the soft coding from tip to 6spd (or vice-versa) until you change the actual software of the ECU.

Are these stock ECUs or are they chipped/flashed? If they're GIAC, you're in luck... AWE can re-flash it from tip to 6spd (or vice-versa) for only $25. Then all you'll need to do is change the soft coding from 06751 to 06711.

I'm pretty sure his car is an 01.5 6spd and he's trying to recode an L-Box ECU from 06751 to 06711.

Thats the answer I was fishing for. And like you said above, it cant be done w/o a re-flash.

Thanks for the replies guys, thats exactly what I was looking for. The ecu's aren't giaced, but was trying to code an l-box for 6 speed.
Thanks again!

Default Yep, it can't be done the "right way" without first reprogramming the ECU.

I'd be interested in seeing how the L-Box ECU works in your car anyway (without a software change or recode). It may run fine. The reason being is that if you try the opposite (put an M-box ECU in an L-Box tip S4), the TCU will go into limp mode since there's no longer valid communication between the TCU and ECU. But in your case, being that you're a 6spd, you don't have a TCU since you do the rowing yourself. So I bet the car runs and drives fine; however, you may notice some quirkiness when leaving from a dead stop in 1st gear. This is because the load values of the tip and 6spd ECUs are calibrated differently as you'd expect.

You hit the nail on the head. Their is quirkiness in first gear as you take off, also when you release the throttle in gear. The L box thinks thr engine has the heavy torque converter to slow it down, but since it doesn't, the engine feels very choppy. I wonder if there's a wau around at least that problem...anyway,besides some extra unwanted error codes and the above mentioned annoyance, the L box works fine in the manual tranny car (not my car, BTW, just a friend's). The car is actually a 1.8t converted to 2.7, so it still has the 5 speed.

I forgot to mention, the only reason we just don't go buy an M box or the equivalent, is because he purchased k04's with the stage 3 fueling with Revo software. Revo does not offer stage 3 anymore for the 2.7's, so he is stuck with this particular ecu because of the revo stage 3 software.

Default A cheap fix would be to solder a stock M-Box EPROM in and then change the soft coding to 06711.

I believe AWE charges ~$75 for this service or $25 if you provide the EPROM, although I'm not sure if this deal applies only to past or current GIAC owners.

I'm a little confused by your other post... Are you saying the L-Box ECU has the Revo stage 3 software on it? If so, I see the problem... No way to convert to the proper Revo stage 3 code for the manual trans since Revo no longer offers/supports stage 3 software?
