(This is not a thread about not being happy with my original ASP True Dual, as I was incredibly happy with it and it is a work of art, I just wanted to try something different.)
For reference, I am on stock DPs as well.
As much as I love the sound of my ASP exhaust, I have always wanted it to be louder and throatier. I decided to experiment and pull the rear muffler off all together and try it out for a week or 2. I liked the way it sounded so I decided to have straight pipes welded on where the original muffler came off. I then cut the tips of the ASP muffler and had them welded onto the very end, giving it the same exact look of having the muffler intact.
The look is perfect and I had them tuck the tips up and in a little more than when it comes from ASP.
The sounds is awesome. Much more throaty, no real additional drone, more burbling and backfire-ish sounding. All in all exactly what I wanted, more sporty and throaty. Still sounds incredibly clean , I can say I havent heard any other S4 in person that sounds like this.
For anyone that wants something more throaty and powerful, Id say remove the rear and try it out. It was louder in the car with just the muffler removed as the exhaust was dumping out underneath the car so the sounds resonated louder in the cabin. With the tips on now and out the stock location cruising speeds are very similiar to with the muffler. WOT and anything over 3k RPM sounds more defined and richer.
I can take pics for anyone interested as well. Total price was $80.

i didnt have mine welded on, i just have mine setup so i can install/remove the muffler whenever i want. i bought two pipes from discount auto, cost about $10...then had a hanger welded on by a friend, free. with just the muffler deleted (no pipes on there) it DRONED HORRIBLE. but once i got the pipes on there, it extended the exhaust outlet outside the bumper, so drone was signifcantly reduced. to be honest, i think it drones MORE with the muffler than without. just because with the muffler, its a deeper tone. i have testpipes by the way. flames and pops GALORE!
