even when you have no warranty, warranty claims are still a PITA....
at the first of this month I took my car in for a couple things, before my last service. I told them my brakes were getting pad deposits, vibrating, and overall not doing well from highway speeds. The car had 48k miles. They said the brakes were 'within spec' and they really couldn't do anything.
So, fast forward to monday. I talked with the SA again, told him they are worse, and that my warranty was out as of sunday. He said even if I had warranty left, Audi issued a TSB saying brakes would not be covered after 12mo/12k miles on any car, anymore, period. AND that my claim was denied b/c of this. He wasn't really supposed to make it public that this was the reason. I was furious.
So I called AoA and left a nice message, relaying that someone better call me back soon.
I honestly can't fathom how stupid a company has to be to fvck up this bad.

To be clear, comfort issues will not be addressed under warranty after 12/12 period, but wear is
still covered. Thus if either the pads or rotors are worn below min specs. you will be covered. See my post below that contains link to the Service Circular re: brakes.

Service circular post

Sucks, man. Time for a BBK? I'd hate to recommend that you replace with OEM parts
considering the cost and the relative lack of fade resistance. Hoewver, if you never ever plan to track it, I suppose that OEM replacements would be advantageous from an ease of service standpoint.

my issue was more of being able to stop than comfort...
When I got back from my trip, the noise was awful (sounded like a 747 trying to stop) and my rotors looked etched, almost like a vinyl record. Felt like that too.
But your post was informative, thanks for linking it. I guess my case won't be heard, even though I will plead it for a while until I get tired of b1tching at AoA.
Now I suppose it's time to STFA for what people like in terms of brakes. Something a step above stock is nice, but I'm not dumping a lot into it right now...

That's what I'm hearing from reading the A6 and Allroad forums. It seems the ONLY way AoA will pay
for new brakes (rotors and/or pads) is if they are worn below min spec - 5mm or less for pads and 2mm or more wear for rotors - but my dealer claims the pads have to be 2mm or less before they will replace. I'm not advocating that this is proper or right, just relaying that info. I have picked up on in the last few weeks.
My front rotors were replaced about 1 yr ago due to being "warped", but the reality was just pad material transfer/buildup that was causing a vibration. I didn't complain, but it was a waste of money, but I have learned to only argue the BIG issues with my dealer, and since they "fixed" it I figured it would be counterproductive to tell them to just deglaze my rotors after they had already put new rotors on my car...

That's just great...I wonder if they will pull that **** with my RS6...90k car and brakes not
included....you want to see someone who will be pissed....they will get more then a call from me.

Check out the link I posted on the Service Circular - this is supposedly for all NA vehicles, so I
would think that your RS66 is included. Sucks to buy from a company with a cash flow crunch. The Audi division is carrying VWoA currently. VWoA is losing $, while AoA is still turning a profit. Strong Euro makes for tigh-fisted policies at German car companies.
