Default Actually, if you burn more fuel, you had to also burn more oxygen, leaving less O2 in the exhaust...

Less O2 in the exhaust means an O2 sensor will read "richer".

Default Wouldn't more fuel burned also lead to more oxygen consumed?

In this situation I assume that the intake valve is closed, and the mixture is being compressed. The amount of air and fuel in the cylinder is fixed. What in advancing the timing causes a change in the ratio of burned fuel to consumed oxygen.

Default The only problem is his engine wasn't misfiring...

He would have thrown a code and/or it would have been very noticeable. You explanation is what you are guessing was happening. But guessing will not explain it if that wasn't the case. Since it wasn't the case and his car wasn't misfiring, then one can assume, from your explanation, that the GIAC chip was indeed running rich.

Default How would you know? I didn't see you on Saturday. You sure weren't sitting in his car logging it.

So basically you are the one guessing.

Default Read my post. If it was misfiring it would throw a code...

plus the engine make behaves differently when misfiring. If you don't know how an engine acts when misfiring, ask. I am sure both Drew and Jeff know what a misfire is like and they would have talked about it.

Drew didn't know what was going on with his car. That is why he asked Jeff for help.
