Default wait, now you confused me....

if 57.0 is what you are using as the start speed to measure fats, and your run didn't start collecting data until something after that (ie 57.1), then you run didn't span the full window you were trying to measure so yeah it's invalid. If I understood that correctly.

At first I thought you were asking if 57.0 and 91.0 were the definite MPH values to use to correspond to 4200/6500. That I have seen vary a bit as described in my other reply.

Default clarification....

FATS was created around the RPM values of 4200 and 6500 for a B5 S4 6spd. For other cars to compare to this same window, we need to see what MPH values these correspond to. Whatever I entered in the template is what I saw as the commonly reported MPH values that corresponded to those RPM values.

HOWEVER, they were not always the same. I saw some variation. That is, 4200 was not always 57.4 or 57.0 or whatever. There was some variation. I believe that variation would change (or maybe not exist) with cars that were slower/faster. A really slow car would have many many datapoints so maybe the cause of the variation would not exist in those runs.

So, to choose the values to specify in the FATS Speed Calculator... if you have a Stg3 Tip S4, I would look at a Stg3 6spd S4 logs to see what MPHs corrsponded to 4200/6500 and use those. I wouldn't use the values from a stock 6spd S4 as those may be different. Maybe none of this matters, but that's how I'd go about getting the best chance at corresponding MPH to the known RPM values we're trying to compare to.

Default i think i'm getting more confused also :) let me try to clarify:

I'm using the rpm based FATS calculator on my Tip.

I believe I found the right start/end rpm for it which was 4040 and 6290 (based off of one run I did).

When I use those rpm's consistently for various runs, I sometimes see that the 'below start rpm' SPEED (from the 'speed fyi' column in the rpm based FATS calc) will be above 57mph.

So what it looks like to me is that the start rpm I determined once, does not consistently result in the 'below rpm' to be below 57mph. And I wonder if other people see this too.

Taking a look at your clarification post: should I just use speed based calc then with the 57 or 57.4 values and forget about the rpm based one?

Sorry to confuse ;-)

Default ahh. Yes, just use the Speed Based one instead of converting twice

the reason the MPH are listed as they are in the Speed Based one is to give any other car a quick way to compare to a B5 S4 6spd FATS.

As Ah10 says "try 57.4mph to 90.6mph" (or whatever/default values) (in the speed based one)

Default :) no doubt...

thanks much, Ant...I got it and will use that method going forward.

one last (n00b) question for now: how was the 57-91 vs. 60-90 arrived at in the first place?
