A patch on the inside is the safest way to go. A plug from the outside is the least safe.

Default IIRC, a repair from the inside of the tire is the only way to preserve the speed rating of a tire;

the self vulcanizing plug that is pushed through the tread from the outside will not hold up under high speed/temp conditions. A blow-out at triple digit speeds is NO FUN!

Default My point exactly...it is worth the $ to get it repaired properly & if it can't be repaired -

then go for a new tire. I have the worst luck with new Michelin's myself. Every new set I have ever purchased ended up with a screw or other metal object puncturing the tread on at least one tire. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Also, don't mess around with sidewall punctures - if the sidewall is damaged; you MUST get a new tire!

I don't think ANY shop will even try to repair sidewall damage!
