Finished the cam cover seals - word of advice.

Don't remove the drivers side timing belt plastic cover. It does comes out with a little jimmy'ing - but it won't go back in one piece without major disassembling.
I thought removing it might have helped get to the cam sensor on the drivers side bank at the front of the engine. It didn't help - and didn't go back without breaking into pieces.
Guess I'll replace it the next time the front end is off. Ok for now.
Except for the 1/2 circle gaskets at the cam sensors, the job is pretty easy. Of course the addition of the plastic piece ended up in a soap opera -
Start - time belt cover came out Ok. Allowed me to JB weld the threaded attachment point for the drivers side intake point - it broke awhile ago. Nice start.
Finished the seal replacement job and go to repalce the cover. Wouldn't go back in.
Broke a piece off while trying - had to fish out with great effort from the timing belt tensioner.
Broke the t-fitting below the coolant resevior tank trying the pull the hoses out of the way - coolant everywhere. T-fitting is a plastic POS.
Stop by hardware store for brass t-fitting replacement.
Re-attach all the hose and clean the leaked coolant.
Break the cover a little more. Decide, its already broken - find out how many pieces need to be broken off before it will go back in. Final fits in. I rejoice.
Forget to tighten the clamp at the intercooler to intake pipe hose of the drivers side beside the cover. The only $%#@ clamp I forgot - and wouldn't have needed to come off if I hadn't removed the $%#@ cover. Test drive, blow the hose, and limp home.
Reattach hose. Go to VAG the car and reset the codes - the $%#@ computer dies. Have to fix it. Codes finally reset.
Final inspect the job - notice the JB welded thread attachment broke when the hose blown. Nice - how about some salt in my bleeding nuckles.
Only thing gained with removing the cover - a broken cover. Nothing fixed, lots of swearing, and no help during the gasket seal change.
Don't remove the cover for this job.
