Hi
I'm turning 16 soon and I really want a car. My dad said something big and safe but I want something sporty and quick. I was thinking about a used avant model with a stick. How bad are they for maintenance or insurance? I'm looking at something probably newer than 2005 and as far under $25k as possible. Also, what are any good, cheap mods? Any advice will be helpful. Thanks

Listen to your dad. He sounds like a smart guy.
My first car at 16 was the family's Honda Accord; it helped saved money on gas, insurance, and maintenance so that when I became older and ultimately more responsible, I was alive, and had enough money to buy an S4.

Don't know the simplest way to say this,
but an S4 is not the best car to safely learn on.
First, learn how to handle a less powerful car in various emergency situations,
then "graduate" to a more powerful car.
Many of us "experienced" drivers still regularly bring our cars to the track for more driving experience.
We still learn something new most every time on the track.

if you want an audi look into buying the 2.8 v6. its not quick but its not toyota slow. its the most realiable engine audi made for that time period. you can get a a4 or a6 2.8 for less than 8k with around 90k.

these are not good 1st cars. cant go wrong with an older civic. theyre cheap to buy, cheap to drive, cheap to repair, practically unlimited modification potential and easy to work on.

Holy crap, kids today. 25K??? How can a young person still in school be even contemplating a TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND dollar car???? Maybe you forgot the period in 25?? 2.5K maybe?
Not to bust your *****, but I see this all the time now days. The entitlement of young people is flat out stunning. Blame has got to sit with us parents though. Giving is not parenting. Hell, I had to spend almost a year rebuilding and fixing my first car. I drove it to school ONCE before I graduated. I came from a upper middle class family that could have given me a new car if they'd chosen...but I was told I would have to buy my own.
First cars are supposed to be ugly (but safe and good running) piles of crap. It's motivating. Keeps you wanting, working and striving to get something better.
If your father buys you a 25K car he is doing you a huge disservice. BTW, listen to everyone else. S4s are huge maint. ******....you'll be sorry.
