Default First day driving the S4 - Is it normal for the 1-2 shift to be hard to engage?

All the other gear changes 2-3, 3-4 etc... the shifting is pretty nice. But the 1-2 is literally hard to do...just wondering if this is normal or not.

I'm loving the S4!!!!!!!!!!

Default ahhh figures... I pound away at the gearbox. Havn't floored it yet but It'll be tough shifting quick

Would a shift shifter help out with it not being as hard?

Default I never slam 1-2....always ease it in there. It likes to hesitate and then pop right in there.

All the others are silky smooth, but 1-2 is a notchy engagement.

Every short shifter I've tried...toy guy & UUC...made 1-2 even more notchy.

Default There is a big gap in the ratios between 1st and 2nd. If you force the shift you will end up with

synchro problems later on. Let the revs fall a bit (wait like one-half to one full beat longer than normal) and then shift into 2nd. As you noticed, all the other gears are better spaced. Our gearboxes are not bulletproof and they are expensive as hell to repair! If you feel resistance, you are causing unnecessary wear and tear and you will pay for it sooner or later! You can STA for more opinions, but most agree on being as gentle as possible.

My 1-2 shift isn't bad at all. I have a Neuspeed short shifter.

Default That's the synchro. Did you ever think about test driving it before buying it?

Like I said months ago, a stock S4 will likely be less reliable than my 11 second S4 because of the tranny and turbo issues. You didn't want to listen to me. Told ya so... Oh well.

Default 1-2 with my B&M is pretty stiff. requires enough effort to get in than the other gears that you

notice it
