First Service- Dealer will not use synthetic!

I scheduled my first service (nearly 5K miles) today and before I hung up, I asked the service guy if they were going to use synthetic oil, just to double-check. Imagine my surprise when he said "No". Actually he said they could, but they would have to charge me extra for this.
So as of now I am bringing my own oil (M1 5-30), but the more I thought about, the only thing I am getting out of this deal is a free oil filter and wasting part of my workday. What really baffles me is that all Audis have rather long service intervals (I was raised on 3k) and I can't see "standard" oil holding up that long.
Has anyone else had this experience?
Thanks,
TCM

...mainly because AoA is allowing dealers to put whatever ****e they want into our cars. My dealer puts Castrol dino in unless you specify synthetic, at which point they'll put in M1 15-50 (porsche dealer also) and charge me 45-50 bucks. WTF??? AoA you suck ***. If you're reading this, email me so we can talk, mmkay?? I've RTFM and it seems to me there are standards of oil that you want owners to adhere to, but yet I haven't heard of ANY dealer who knows WTF I'm talking about when I mention ACEA A-2/B-2 standards. You guys need to do better research and be a little more observant of your dealers...
