Can it be cranked up by the dealership? Possibly somewhere else besides the dealership? It has 38k miles now, and my car has 58k.

Your cluster most likely has more that 1000 miles so your stuck with it as is, or have to buy a new one to get the actual miles....
you can just slap it in and have you title branded to "actual miles unkown" but this will hurt resale.

stated that to instal and set a VW/Audi Cluster, I needed a dealer 1551/1552/5051 (VAG-COM in my case) to burn the milage, it had to be done within 1000 miles of installation (it was new) and that the value had to be entered in Kilometers since the cluster really "thinks" in Kilo's and converts to miles... I'll try and dig up the instruction sheet....

Q: Can I use VAG-COM to roll back my electronic odometer?
A: No. A brand new instrument cluster (with less than 100 km on it) can be rolled forward, one time only. Of course, this assumes that the instrument cluster is "diagnostics capable". Not all instrument clusters with electronic odometers are.
