The S4 will be sitting when it snows so I'm driving out to the dealer in a few minutes to buy the porsche battery tender for the S4.
I just bought studded snow tires for my '87 saab. They're dirt cheap in 15"
BTW, I don't know and don't care if they're illegal in VA.
Due to our location, ice/rain is more common than snow.

I paid $117 at the dealer but you could probably search for "charge-o-mat" on ebay..

I need a very good automatic charger that I can leave on the car for awhile and not worry about it overcharging the battery.. and possibly blowing it up while I'm not home, etc.
Rather than try to shop around and figure out which brand is good I remembered the one they had at the parts counter. I figure porsche wouldn't sell one with their name on it unless it's very good.

the Ctek will kick over into the "fully charged" mode in 2-3 days.
If the battery is in great condition and there's very little trickle draw from the car's electronica stuff (alarm, wake-up mode, etc) it'll go to that mode a little sooner.
If you believe their documentation and paid advertising-- it seems as though a battery will last forever.
