Default Follow-up to Oil viscosity mixing/blending topics from yesterday...

Here is a link to an interesting article. Now, I am not saying to routinely blend oils, but this will tell you a lot about viscosity and it even includes a chart to determine the viscosity of a blend of two differnt basestocks - yes, I know: basestock blending doesn't = finished motor oil blending. It can be done, but what cannot be done is to calculate the final resultant viscosity fo the blend expressed in terms of xW-xx. That is all.

Viscosity

Default doesn't seem to handle 0w. used .001 no prob. prolly a log of zero error

zero makes:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0005'

Invalid procedure call or argument: 'Log'

/calculations/blending_pop.asp, line 295

perhaps another proof that there is no such thing as 0 weight oil?

It does. You need to enter actual viscosities - not just "0W".

Default thanks for the presumptuous post. did you _try_ entering "0"?

i understand it's not an actual viscosity. that's where my mobil1 0w30 commentary comes from

Default Presumptuous ??? ok...

Here are the specs for Mobil One 0W-30:

Viscosity, ASTM D 445
cSt @ 40ēC 56
cSt @ 100ēC 10.3

Try using those numbers. That is the viscosity. The 0W-30 is not the viscosity. It is the SAE weight rating.
