Default That's because they don't flow very well mounted the right way.

Of course, there are several views of what the right way is :-)

Default depending on spring rate, it may allow boost pressure to open the valve

as the boost is now hitting the piston on it's movement axis

Default IIRC, Piggie tested the flow of Forge valves compared to Bosch 710

and found the flow to be the same

Default Are those the diaphragm valves?

Diaphragm valves do not like pressure holding them onto the seat and then having to open against that pressure to vent it. I am referring to to the pressure that actually has to be vented of coure, not signal pressure.

Default actually, that will be the other way around

in this orientation boost pressure will work to open the diaphragm

Default What I meant was that is why Forge says to mount them like that, so boost pressure opens them.

Otherwise, boost pressure holding the valve shut is something diaphragm valves don't like. The configuration pictured is what's known as a downstream valve.

Mounted which way? Did it matter? How did he test it?

Default in other (OEM) orientation boost will NOT hold the diaphragm shut

it will be hitting the diaphragm from the side. So the only thing affecting the diaphragm will be vacuum in small vacuum lines (and, of course, the spring holding it shut)

Default Here's the plot, sort of hard to see...

I believe he just had a vacuum pulling on the nipple that is normally attached to the vac lines in the stock config.
