As a clarification, I understand that the car was supposedly not sold as a demo. I'm just saying that "The warranty starts when you take delivery" is not true as a blanket statement.

This happens all the time. Not only do dealers do this to capture factory incentives, there is often great pressure from the dealer reps who are employees of the manufacturer to punch cars. It helps them with their monthly sales figures. I am a manager at a Mercedes dealer and sold Porsche/Audi for many years. This is very common. A "punched" car does not qualify for factory incentives like special APR or lease incentives. The dealer usually uses the money to write the car down. For example, you may see an Audi dealer offering say a8Ls with 10k off MSRP.Well there is only maybe $4100 in markup on that car and 2k in holdback money. The dealer is not losing 4 grand to sell you a new A8. That would be a punched car. You should be advised when you purchased a punched vehicle that the warranty has been ticking since whatever date the vehicle was punched.
