Default Front axel removal question....

I need to pull the front axels for the turbo swap. I have the 17mm allen "L" already that I just got from Sears. Now, here's the possibly dumb question: The car is in the air on stands and the front wheels are off, the car is in neutral and when I turn the allen tool the driveshaft spins freely so, should I put it in gear and try it? Is that how you keep it from spinning or will that damage something? Also, does the car NEED to be on the ground to do this? Forgive my ignorance, it's my first engine pull and yep I STFA. TIA guys.

The rotors are not turning, just the axel........Wait a minute (runs outside to put wheel bolts in)

Default Got it. With the car in the air and wheels off I had someone push on the brakes and I used an 8'

breaker bar. Worked really easily. So now I just unscrew the 6 bolts on the tranny and pop em out right?
