Front License Plate Panel

The car came with a front license plate holder fasten by drilling 4 holes through the bumper panel. Don't need the plate. I see many pictures posted without the holder. Did you cars come from the dealer like that, or did you replace the panel? Does the dealer install the plate holder?
I'm trying to figure out if I can get dealer to replace for free......

Well, I asked the dealer to not put on the plate. I believe by law (in your state) they have to put it on. It looks much better without it, you drive @ your own risk. I've gotten stopped for not having the front plate. You carry it with you, just tell the cop that the bumper just got painted. They will usually let you off with a verbal warning.

I got my car from Valenti in Watertown. The salesman joked about drilling the front but said that they wouldn't do it. I've been keeping an eye on the other cars I see on the road, and at least 1/3 of them do not have front plates, so I don't think anyone is being ticketed for it.

In CT we are in a "phase-in period". I believe all cars are supposed to have two plates by the end of next year. Currently all cars with "new" plates (i.e. new looking plates) are supposed to have two. The older blue/white plates can get away with one. But since we are in a phase-in period most cops are not ticketing for it. You can bet once ALL cars are supposed to have two plates they will notice.
Other people have postest the exact details and a link at the ct dmv explaining the subject, the above was probably inacurrate, but you get the
gist.

I asked my dealer about this. In Ca you are supposed to have one, but they can not stop you for it. They can pull you over for something else, like speeding, then get you for the not having it.
My friends just called the dealer and told them not to drill and they didn't. It's "at your own risk" though.
I told them not to drill mine also, just carry it with you in case you get stopped..
