Fuel consumption
Y'know... since I've got my s4 it seems that I'm always putting fuel in it. "Man this thing sucks fuel" has flashed across my brain numerous times. I suspected that my trip computer was fibbing on the fuel mileage so I started tracking it manually. Manual calculations and the indicated mileage on the trip computer are nearly identical. What the hell... doesn't add up... *where* is all this fuel going?
Now that my driving has "settled down" my fuel mileage continues to hover around 18.9 mpg w/ pure city driving. I routinely got 19.8-20.2 mpg in my A4-K04 so we're only talking a 0.9-1.2 mph "penalty" for all the brute speed the S4 offers. 18.9 is a mpg figure I'm quite happy with... after all, this aint no toyota turdcel.
More pondering solved the mystery. With my A4 I averaged around 13,000 miles per year. With my S4 I've logged over 1500 miles in 3 weeks... on pace for 24,000 miles per year! So, fuel mileage is down slightly but miles driven is up significantly!
I've said it before but it bears repeating... Damn this is an awesome car!

Re: Fuel consumption
That's a big advantage of turbocharging a smaller engine, rather than just building a bigger one. You keep the fuel consumption of the smaller engine, until you "get into" the turbos. So the boost costs you only when you use it.
Assuming the weight is the same, and you stay out of the turbos entirely, you should get slightly BETTER gas milage in the S4, compared to the V6 A4, since the displacement is slightly smaller.

I'm a happy camper with my mpg
I've posted this before. I filled my tank three times in 6 days. I'm on pace for 51,000 miles a year!! I'm getting about 23 mpg with 1/3 city driving and some brief stints of hard accelerating. That's better than my previous A4 30V where I COULD get 22 mpg with very gentle driving. If my trip computer is accurate, then I'm doing better with my S4.

Just be glad...
300hp out of a 1.3l rotary = about 11-12mpg.
Thats what I get right now. 15 on the highway. I cant wait for the s4. I will save so much money just in gas! The ducati on the other hand gets about 40, *45* when I really hammer on it (Yes it goes up, no I dont know why)
Scot
Where s4 art though, of s4 of joy.
Soon my pretty, you will be mine.
I think I am going insane.
