Default Funny quote from an argument on another forum - no replacement for displacelement!

Interested in finding a good racing game for my Xbox, I was reading a forum for Need for Speed underground (the game looks kind of dumb), and found this quote:

"There's no replacement for displacement. You can force feed a import engine all you want but you won't make more power then the larger american engines because of the lack of displacement. Just look at a funny car, do you think your 4 and 6 cylinder engines could make 5,000hp and last a weekend of racing against John Force? The import engines are to small. "

Funny guy, guess he doesn't realize funny cars are all supercharged. It is pretty funny how some people think. My boss caught me the other day when I was complaining how EVo's and WRX's are fast, even though they are 4 bangers. He said "you sound like a Mustang/Camaro owner - 'how are those 6 bangers that fast??'"

Out of curiosity, how would a stock S4 fair against a stock Mustang GT or Camaro SS?

Mustang GT, pretty close. The Camaro SS is going to kill it.

Default When I was stock, I routinely squashed mustangs....

After I was chipped, I hung with the camaro ss until about 130MPH where I started to pull on him.

Default Thing is...there IS no replacement for displacement

do all you want to the smaller engines...then do the same to a big block....

Ceteris paribus, a stock S4 will slowly walk a GT and get walked hard by an SS.

Default EXACTLY.

you don't need to be as efficient because adding displacement doesn't necessarily mean proportional add on in weight. HP per engine weight is gonna be better for well tuned large dispalement engines.

Yep, Top fuel doesn't use inline 4's either.

Default Well, the argument is sort of funny

If you spend the same amount of money on an N/A car with lots of displacement as you do on a smaller engine with a turbo, I'll bet they will still be pretty equal. Of course a bigger engine will always be more powerful, but you're going to need to spend a lot more to make that engine work with a supercharger or turbo...

Is the GT supposed to be an SS rival? Sucks for Ford...

Default In that sense..it's true...

but money factor is not a factor when coming to engine power. The logic being, you spend X money on a N/A 4 banger then the same on a N/A big block....

I can't use that statement on a forcefed 4 banger to a N/A big block....doesn't work that way.
