Default Wider tires distribute more weight across the snow, therefore making less traction

On dry roads, you are right though.

Default I've driven my whole life without them and most the time was w/ FWD or RWD cars...no prob but I'd

love to try snow tires soon. It's funny watching "flatlanders" try to drive in snow with any vehicle/tires/chains/whatever...clueless...

You are correct. I was thinking dry roads even though we were obviously talking about snow...

Default Are you going 10 mph on the highway or something? Seriously.

Even in my Range Rover, in the snow if I don't have my snow tires on its scary with the sliding. Maybe scary to you and scary to me are relative terms.

Get some better tires then. <-- that's where the problem is.

Default LOL I know and I have some snows in the mail.

I guess my point is that the only time A/S tires have been OK at best for me in the winter is when they are brand spankin new, and not all worn out from using them all summer.

Default I dont know man...I mean I've slidden a few times but never anything 'dangerous'

I agree this is kind of subjective, but I've never had anything out of control happen. What's awesome about the quattro with all the Audis I've driven is that hitting the gas a little bit always seems to regain traction and can pull you out of most slides. I've never freaked out when sliding at all because I'm so confident in the quattro's ability to regain traction. Manual trannys are nice as well...

Default There's a huge range of snow traction in all seasons. Some are decent in snow, others suck.

There's a huge range of snow traction in snow tires too.

Very true. The tires I have now (RE960AS Pole Positions) are the best A/S for snow traction I've had
