Are all software companies now supposed to ship their softwares with 400 different DLLs that users may or may not have? I don't think so. You are entitled to think differently, of course.
I don't blame APR for this at all. I've had to do this exact process (for other DLLs, obviously) to get numerous other softwares to run.

well, either way, it'd probably reduce some customer service issues to put this in the help or FAQs

However, I know how the system works, and I also know it's impossible (IMPOSSIBLE) to cover every base.
But, things like this should be documented. I fully agree with Andrew C on that.

I'm not kidding when I say I have at least 6-7 different passwords for various programs on my DoD computer at work. Then they went to cac chip ID cards that you put in a slot in the keyboard. They're supposed to make everything easier but we still have to use all the other passwords for each program. The security computer people monitor everything and we can't change the slightest thing on our machines.
It's a running joke that the computer people let us learn the newest thing and finally start to be productive again, then they release a new version with all kinds of bugs and quirks to keep us government workers from getting too ahead of ourselves.

you come up with ONE DLL that consistently needs installing on your target baseline machines, you wouldn't include it?
Last time I checked the CD that ECUx came on had around half a gig of free space :P

all the machines they tested on already had the DLL? They may not have even known it was an issue =)
I realize that's ridiculous, it uses the DLL, they have to know. The only logical answer is that they assumed it would be already installed on most Windows machines. Or they could have just forgotten to put it on the CD =)
