Before chipping, my engine would hesitate on acceleration around 2200RPM; the chip eliminates that in 2nd gear. In auto mode, the gear selection is very quick and if you drive smoothly, the you maintain that gear (no further upshifts unless your accelerating). The chip is a must-do as far as I'm concerned...

A few weeks ago, I brought up the topic of gear hunting with the GIAC ECU and GIAC Tip Chip (hunting in 5th -> 4th). Since Garrett was going to be in town, I volunteered to talk to him during his visit to Dynospot Racing.
I haven't posted a reply yet because I haven't gotten an email reply from him yet. Basically, he asked me to email directly if I couldn't get the tiptronic to "learn" not to gear hunt. At first, I thought I was successful. But, later on I found out that the gear hunting didn't occur if outside temperature exceeded 85 degrees. In cooler temps, <70, I had no trouble reproducing the gear hunting.
I have since emailed this information to Garrett. He offered to allow me to test out a new version which would "clamp" (his own word) down harder and prevent the gear hunting. I'm still waiting to hear from him on this. I suspect he's very busy and this probably isn't high priority. Maybe if you are thinking of a new purchase, you can remind him for me![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
That said, I still feel that the Tip Chip is essential for a tiptronic S4.
Since I recently acquired an AP-22, I'll try to do some more testing and post the results here. The previous results were posted as 6.1 for 0-60 with power braking and 6.7 without. However, these times are only good for relative comparison since the tilt factor hasn't been properly adjusted yet.
Sorry, I haven't driven the car with GIAC ECU and without GIAC Tip Chip. I'd consider trying it but the Tip Chip is a real pain to get out from under the passenger foot area.

* in D mode floor it....faster downshifts then stock?
* in D mode light throttle are shifts firmer then stock?
* in Tip mode shifting occurs right away without delay right?
* in D mode are WOT shifts faster then stock?

I believe the tip chip actually takes the stock WOT shift speed and applies it to EVERY shift. WOT, the tip shifts REALLY fast but cruising around it takes forever.
In general, if you want to go fast, leave it in D...consistently the runs I did at the strip were faster in D...I'm afraid between the tach, your brain, your thumb, the tip ECU, the engine ECU and the mechanicals, you just can't nail the shifts like the tip to engine ECU communication can.
For the ultimate 1/4 runs, leave it in D then shift to 3 so it doesn't hit 4th before the end of the 1/4 mile.
So WOT, the tip isn't noticeably if any faster than stock BUT all your regular up and downshifts are faster and that makes it more controlled and obedient...I PARTICULARLY liked the improvement in the downsshifts.

But, I'd rather it always stay in 5th because that way I can control when it shifts to 4th. It just doesn't seem good for the transmittion when it shifts between 5th and 4th and back one a second.
