Default Giac X chip

Howdy...

I'm close to chipping for the first time and have it narrowed down to APR or Giac X. I've done some snooping around in the archives, and I've seen mention of the GIAC having boost spikes and the need for a manual boost controller.

I don't know much (just enuff to be dangerous), but would like someone to explain (please)where/how/why these spikes manifest themselves, how dangerous are they to my beloved 2.7TT, and if having a MBC is a PITA. My car is a daily driver, 80K on it.

Thanks,

Earnie

If your car is a daily driver and you want to keep those 80k turbos....either don't chip, or go APR

Bad advice. If you are worried about turbos, don't chip at all.

A TAP chip will even outlast GIAC's kill mode ;-)

Default New X chip apparently has none of these issues. They must have made spool-up less aggressive.

That's cool for everyone else, but I'd prefer to have a more aggressive spool-up with the old X chip and then add a MBC to cap the spike.

It's very easy to add a MBC into the loop to cap spikes, perfectly fine even for daily drivers.

Default The new version of the X chip has no more overboost issues.

I've been running it for several days now and it's awesome! Creamy smooth power. I'd get it over APR anyday...

Default it is less aggressive, boost comes on later than previous versions. Much smoother. I'll have logs
