So my car has been acting wierd, was doing some routine stuff this afternoon and discovered that the plug connector for the passenger bank knock sensor had come out of the firewall ziptie/loom thing and fell onto my manifold. the wires appear to be fine but the male and female plugs are now one big charcole mess and very mangled. there is no way that the three wires in there are still all isolated from each other. at first i thought no big deal, i will just get new plugs and splice. no dice. the wire coming from the ecu is a externaly shielded coax looking thing and i know from experience with other stuff that splicing that sort of thing never turns out well.
Any suggestions?
I am interested to log KSVs now and see if that bank is pegged or something.

how bad is the plug metled? can you salvage the pins if you break apart the melted plastic, and just repin a new clip? maybe thats one way you can go.... if not, looks like your going to have to splice it.... it shouldnt be too big of a deal as long as you dont have any cold solder joints.... sorry to hear about your mis-fortune man.... its always something!

I've spliced that wiring before when my OS sensor wires were cut. YOu need to carefully cut the shielding back and then you can splice. I did it at Laguna when I kept throwing codes on track.
good luck.

Masters in Elec. Engineering talking here - the shielding on 1 inch or so is no big deal - you lose more than that in the end of the plastic plug anyway. they really going after crosstalk along the legth of the wire.
But if you're worried, some tinfoil (connect it to the existing shield or ground somehow) will block the RF interference the same as the best braided aluminum...
if you really want to do it right, all you need to do is mate two coax wires, you can put screw-on or clamp-on connectors on each side of the wire/replacement plug - doesn't matter what kind as long as it has the same number of internal leads. one male, one female then just plug em into each other. good as new.
should be able to easily find the parts online. newark might have em, or an audio/video supply house...
good luck.

My MAF signal has been low since the Hitachi MAF conversion. On my 2000, only the signal wire was shielded. I have read that you need to be careful that the shielding doesn't touch the sensor wire, but is it only a problem if the sensor wire is exposed? Thanks...
