3M (I think) Painter's tape (blue) works very well. No residue.

I bought a package of six rolls for a little over $30 at Home Depot. Just go to the tape aisle and you'll see it.

DON'T use racer's tape. I used it at the track, and it was a !@#$ to get off.

It protected the paint fine, but afterwards it left a residue JUST LIKE if you had used duct tape. I had to use adhesive remover, then wash several times to get everything completely off. If you're going to be driving it hot weather, it'll be even harder to take off.
Yes Kenobi, I'll use your painter's tape from now on.
