Got busted for speeding (again), questions for you radar detector owners:

I used to have an Escort last year and it seemed to work quite well, altho most sp tickets I avoided were due to my own alertness.
I did get one once coming over a hill and the cop just zapped me as I came over. I dont know if it was instant on or if my detector just couldn't pick it up over the crest of the hill.
Anyways, since I live in Canada where individual liberties take a backseat to big brother I got my Escort confiscated (not by VG-he saw it).
I went over the border recently and got some cheap Radio Shack detector. It has all the features but its range really *sucks*. I just got a sp.ticket last week while making a relatively sharp turn on a 2 lane country hiway. I was clocked at 95mph in a 55 zone (153kph in a 90kph).
The cop was travelling the other directn and just as I was straightening out of the turn I saw the cop and my R.Shack **** starts going nuts! I brake down to 70 and let go of the brakes as she passes hoping she doesn't notice or clocks me at a leeser speed. 2 secs later her lights come on and I make the right but tough decision to slow down and pull over. I *know* I could've outdistanced her, but her buddies could've been further down the hiway.
So if I had a V1 or something similar, would it have saved my ***? Or at least allowed me to slow down a bit more?
It was kind of amusing when she came over and said "do you know you were doing 153?! (95mph)"
I was thinking "actually ma'am I was doing about 180 (111mph) in the straight preceding the turn-in, but dont you go tryin that in your p.o.s Crown Vic, it'd be a real shame to mess up that pretty little face of yours." (she was kinda cute)
So anyways I have to go to court in a few weeks. If the judge tells me I was being reckless or endangering my life or something and if I think he's gonna nail me would it be a good idea to say something like:
"your honour, I admit I was going a little too fast that day and I dont mean to excuse myself from that fact. But please note that I do have an aftermarket susp on my car, lo profile grippy tires, many days out at the track and advanced driving course completed so although it was poor judgement on my part it still wasn't as bad as it seems. Also there was no other traffic around and the weather was sunny and road conditions excellent"
I don't want this to sound like I'm justifying my speed, just that ME doing 95 in THAT car on THAT day is a lot different than say an 18yo kid doing that in a GrandAm at night.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Looks like the next coupla years I have to really rein in my driving habits if I wanna keep my licence. Dont even ask about my insurance rates!
No accidents, no driving related infractions at all except speeding (and possessions of a detector) and I gotta pay thru my nose.
It really pisses me off when I see all those drivers out there who dont know how to merge, dont know how to lane change, how to use their indicators, tailgate, etc, etc. I bet most of them have perfect driving records too. And I'm the one who gets nailed?! WTF?!!
God I lovehate my S4!!!

...the V1 won't help you. Nor will any other detector. The only thing you can hope for is that someone ahead of you gets hit with instant-on before you do, so you can react to the quick chirp that the V1 (with it's superior range) will give you. If it was radar that stayed on, you definetly would have picked it up long before you saw the cop.
I got nailed for 72 in a 45 with my V1, and the full-strength Ka band came out of nowhere. There was nothing I or it could do, except not to speed. But somehow that never seems to happen.

up north where ther's few cars and even fewer cops. But after several hundred miles you're bound to run into one and when you do chances are you'll be the only car on the road so there's no place to hide. So if its instant-on I guess I'm toast.

After a couple tickets already you must have accumulated points and your insurance may have gone up. At this point you should probably do whatever you can to prevent more tickets. I'd shell out the $400 (USD) for the V1 instead of the crappy radio shack. If it helps even by 50 yards, it's worth it.
