ground clearance question? I want to send my car back to Cali from Hawaii.
I'm not there at the moment and a friend was going to take her to the dock. The shipping co. wants at least 6" of clearance. I know no one can tell me exactly but i'm not even sure i'm anywhere in the ballpark. Its a 2000, with a Scorpion cat back (hangs low) and its on H&R/Bilstiens with a rear anti roll bar. Stock weels and tire size (worn). The car sits low in my eyes. The suspension was on the car when I got it over a year ago, thought I read of others with this set up saying it kept dropping. If i'm low (as I believe) is there anything I can do to temporarily raise the car for transport (no I was never offered the original suspension) TIA..

I'm the expert at this one...
My car is going back to Cali soon after it's movable. I've shipped back and forth twice. The BARE MINIMUM is 5 inches, but if it looks like 6 inches, they'll let you get away with it. I wouldn't do it with less than five unless you want to lose your downpipes or catback.
The solution for a temporary period is to go to Pepboys in Cali (you can't find these in Hawaii) or Autozone and buy a set of rubber bump snubs that fit in between two coils of your springs. It'll temporarily raise your car slightly by close to an inch and then you take them off after you get your car.
For Hawaii to Cali and vice versa, you have three choices:
1) Horizon lines - www.shipmyvehicle.com
2) Prasha (sp?)
3) Matson
#1 and #2 cost the same. All 3 have the same rule on 6 inches of clearance. I've shipped with Horizon a couple of times now and am about to do it a third time. I didn't get any damage with Horizon so I'd say you should go with them too. #1 and #2 cost the same - $899. #3 costs around $1100 with no real benefits. Hope that helps~

Shipped a car with 4" of clearence through Horizon. I had to put it on a pallet though
I also had to strap it down on the pallet with my own rachet straps. Where in Hawaii is your car?
