By pleading guilty, the death penalty is off the table in Washington.

as part of his teams plan to get hima plea bargin as opposed to the death penalty.

Our tax dollars at work... ugh..

Default Well, look at it this way...

If he clammed up, and got the death penalty, there would be a long legal battle to keep him alive (I don't know if it is still true, but it used to be more expensive to execute someone than to imprison them for life, due to the legal costs) and the victims' families would have never gotten final closure. Yes it sucks and this guy should be dead for what he did, but the bargaining process does have some positive societal effects.

Default In terms of overall social cost, it may not be. It's more like "spare the one's who confess, execute

the one's who make you prove (in the eyes of the court) that they did it". I'm not saying either is more right, but there are arguments to both sides.
