Default Is H&R springs with shock shocks a bad idea?

I'm really just trying to lower the car. I don't want a firmer ride. I'm on stock 17"s and will go to 18 inch RS4 replicas dowm the rode. Thanks for any help you can provide.

it's not a bad idea.....it's just going to decrease the life of the shocks somewhat

Default Disagree. 1) S4 Van will get a stiffer ride with only the springs anyway. 2) Springs should be match

ed with shocks. It's a waste of time and money to throw on springs that the shocks are incapable of handling (which the stock shocks are). You will just get a sh!tty ride and regret it, and then you will have to take everything apart again and put in the good shocks that you should have installed in the first place.

Default I was TOLD that it would be OK as long as you didnt have alot of miles on the stock shoks, 30K or

so, I replaced my shocks anyway. I was told that it would be OK to run but if it was a high milage shock that you would just end up having to replace them anyway at some point soon and have to spend money for labor to instal them and re align the car again. More money in the begining to save even more money later.

Default H&R springs are not that much stiffer than stock......

i can see if you're throwing on stock 650/750 springs or something but not these.

I agree, the best possible option would be matched springs/shocks but it is not "bad" to run upgraded springs without swapping shocks....just not optimum. The stock shocks will wear out quicker with the stiffer springs but the first 10 miles you put the springs on, the shocks are not going to fall apart on you.

Kind of like chipping your car......there are some stock components on the car that really weren't made for the stresses of chipping but it doesn't mean you can chip a stock car, it just means that those component are going to wear/need to be replaced sooner.
