H- or V- Rated Winter Tires . . .
It's that time of year again . . .
I need to buy some H- or V-rated winter tires. I have narrowed my list to the following:
Pirelli Winter 210 or 240 Snowsport
Michelin Pilot Alpin
Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22
Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2/M3.
I had the Michelin Pilot Alpin on my A4 and they were great interms of dry handling and looks (tread pattern is nicer than the others IMO). Do you have any experience with the others?
I will be mounting the tires on 17'' x 8'' front rims and rear 17'' x 9'' rims mounted with 235/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rear.
Thanks for your input,
/Rich

I have the Dunlop Winter Sport M2's...........
I was in Vermont last year during one of only a few heavy snows. These tires were great! I drove about 2 hours in blinding snow and never needed to stop. SUV's didn't even dare, only the big snowplows were on the road. I highly recommend them. They are not too loud and have very good wet performance too.

Same here
M2's worked great in deep Sierra snow, and at 100+ mph over Donner Pass when it was dry and clear. Basically, though, I think any of the major brands of snow tire will be okay. If you want improved snow handling, get some narrower wheels and tires. WRC cars run a 155 width in the snow. You don't want to float on the snow, you want to sink down to a firm surface. Save your pretty wheels for the summer. Dropping to a smaller diameter wheel, which is necessary when you go narrower, will save $35 per tire, too.

Re: Same here
Dan--
Thanks for the input. The 255 and 235 section widths I am planning on buying are indeed narrower than the 275 and 245 section width summer tires that come on the M5. Also, the M5 comes with 18'' wheels and I am going down to 17s.

Re: Nice car....what color is the interior?
Idiot Savant-cactuss4 --
Thanks for your help. I don;t know if you were asking me or Dan regarding the interior color. My car is Lemans Blue on the outside and has the Lemans Blue leather on the inside (blue inserts on black seats -- a bit like the blue alcantara on the S4).
