Default Had an interesting conversation with a mechanic at Anderson-Behel, CA.

According to the mechanic, he's cool BTW, if you floor it, it's pretty much abusing the car. Those small turbos are not durable enough to drive hard. European S4s get more power so it only comes with 6k miles/6 months warranty on turbos, he said. If you drive hard a chipped car, it will significantly shorten the life time of the turbo. That's what he said.

He also mentioned that larger after market turbos would be better if you want to go fast. They're more durable and inexpensive than stock turbos. 2001 turbos and oil lines fit to 2000 S4, but it will cause the same failure sooner or later if you drive hard.

I drove my car with him, and he told me my turbos are fine! Fine until it starts making hi-pitch metalic noise... So I will put GIAC chip back in tonight.

Default How does "flooring it" translate into abusing the car?

If that's the case, I'm guilty of car abuse!

Default No offense but the guy is talking out of his ***. I am no expert but Audi

would not have made a car that can't be "floored". The turbos do what they are supposed to and the bottom line is, I think they are limited by the amount of boost they can create which would eliminate excessive abuse no matter where the pedal is or how much gas you give it.

Sounds like he was trying impress you with his overwhelming limited knowledge of cars.

No then saying all that I suppose I could be way wrong and that would make me look like an ***. I am sure that Matt K or someone who knows more can correct me if I am wrong.

I agree; if it were a problem you could prevent "flooring" from the ECU

Default Looking at the fact that more track-event-ed S4s have turbo failure...

I guess he got a point. I understood "floor it" is just a metaphor.

Where did this fact come from? Are you basing this on the recent chip survey?

Yes. 4% vs 12%. "Hard driving style" is noticable, too.

How often do you do that? One whole day, or once in a while?
