Looking to buy a front passenger halfshaft and was calling around to get price quotes. Anyone know if there are equivalent VW or Audi model part numbers which will work but not cost an arm and a leg?

If i ever had any problems in that department i would probably do it. There is a local shop, South Bay Driveline, that builds custom drivelines and half shafts. They are doing some custom work for a baja project im working on. They are pimp status!

Stock, I've heard nothing but great things from here and other vehicle camps about raxles. I know someone else suggested this, but I figured I'd put another reassuring note out there. I'll probably go with them on my DSM if I don't just do NAPA rebuilt for a little less $.
IIRC there is an 'upgrade' for us with some older stock audi part. Maybe from 4kq's or something, but I really can't remember.
Beyond that, like EkSiPd said, custom. Find a reputable, local if possible, drive shaft shop. I can't imagine how much power/drive line abuse you'd have to do to start breaking front halfshafts in these cars. Unless there is some weak point. From what I remember while doing the CV boots, the front halfshafts looked very beefy.

The only info I could find was in relation to the Polish S4 with supposedly 1000hp. This is what the article says.
"After breaking a front driveshaft last year, Arek upgraded to OEM front halfshafts from an Audi 100 which he says are the strongest available which will easily (and affordably) fit."

I can't trust them now. The axle that raxles.com sent me was OEM for our cars, and the joint had AMS synthetic grease etc. Boot was also OEM. Great quality and price too. I can't recommend them enough.
