Default Half shaft removal question

So my CV joint is making noise. New boots were just put on, but I think they didn't do a great job with lubing the CV joint and now it's clicking. My plan is to loosen the half shaft and carefully move the boot back and try to get some grease in the CV joint. Anyone ever try that or have any good tips? Do I need to remove the break disc and axle bolt to remove the shaft. My Bentley manual isn't in yet, but I don't want to let it go any longer. Any help would be appreciated.

Default which one are you going to try and add grease to??

The inner one or the outer one?? And yes, if you are going to take it out you need to remove the axle bolt, caliper, and rotor. There should be a write up in the tech articles somewhere. One issue you might run into is the clamps that hold the boot on are one time use clamps and if you've got new ones, there is a special plier that you use to clamp them down with.

Default How many miles on those axles? Best bet is to replace complete axle...

if they are clicking then chances are the outer CVs are done. I highly doubt putting more grease in is going to fix them. Sounds like the damage has been done. You can just get outer CVs instead of getting the entire axle, that can save you some money. Just my 2 cents, been down that a road a time or two.

Default and as far as installing them yourself. . .

it's a lot easier to just take the bad axle out, and put a new one in!!

Default Re: It's the inside CV that I would need to regrease.

It started a few days ago right after the previous owner had the boots redone. I think his shop tried pulling a fast one on him. The car has 100k on it. Where is a good place to get an axle?

Default To remove the inside CV's you don't need to remove the axle bolt. Take the 6 bolts off and turn the

wheel by hand which should cause the joint to come out of the housing it mates to on the trans.

However, if it were me, I'd get new axles since they have 100k on them. Raxles.com has them for about ~180/side

Default Re: How big a pain is it to get back on?

Would you happen to know what the torque specs are for the 6 bolts for re-install. Thinking of lubing it and ordering new on Monday for sure.

Default There's enough play in the joints for them to slide off and back on. Don't know the torque spec but

can look it up on Bently this evening.
