Default Has anyone added aftermarket amps. to the stock Bose system?

Hello,

I am about to purchase a used 2000 S4 from a friend and was hoping to put the stereo from my existing car into it. I was hoping to retain though most of the stock speakers and the stock head/changer units. The problem is, I think the stock head has no line-level outputs. Is this true? If so, has anyone here used a line level converter with much success? Is there a noticeable difference in sound quality? I plan on running an ADS 6 x 55 W amp. bridged to 4 channels (two for 10" JL Audio subs and two for ADS 5.25" components) and an ADS 2 x 40 W powering two ADS 4.00": components. I also have a three-way e-crossover. Any advice?

Thanks,

Joe

You can tap the stock level-outs at the rear Bose amp.

Default I prefer Borla as my sound system... who wants to drown out rpm/engine noise...

with music! Not me any way. In this regard, I think the stock premium Bose system ROCKS and is perfect for the hybrid S4 and all its sounds. I am always on my throttle and needing to audibly monitor this very "on-hands six speed." Unless of course, I am doing a rare long distant, constantly-in-6 gear-cruise. The tachometer alone just doesn't cut it.

Except that you don't need the line converter.

Default You are correct. I list the line level pinouts.

I checked the link. In the end, you were unhappy and you ripped it all out. Anybody have any success in ripping out speakers and Bose amp, recoding the stereo to "standard non bose mode" and working from there?
