Has anyone found a cheap solution to keep wind noise down when taping at the track? I'd love to

Default The problem we found

is that it's hard to mount it so it won't get overloaded too easily by the noise level.

Default the lapel microphone has really low sensitivity, so in fact, you have to amplify the signal..

in post production with your video editing software. This is way better, because the microphone does not get overwhelmed and you don't get distortion.

Since it's so tiny, a piece of gaffer's tape holds it in the engine bay.

Default So even though

it sounded like crap when we did a quick playback on the camcorder, that can be fixed in, say, Premiere?

Default well, if you have wind noise, then you're going to get amplified wind noise..

and in some ways, it'll turn to what sounds like distortion as it's a cheap microphone (the one on the camcorder)

Let me upload a movie that I made using my setup.

Default Doubt it

You need to use an amplifier in the car when you are capturing the video.

Pretty hard to filter out bad noise when you are editting.

Default I think the problem is the mics are just hooked up to 12V DC in the car

Got a link for the amplifier you're talking about?

Default A sample movie....

Don't laugh. This is what happens when you have a stock tire'd S4 (sedan) with a chip (too much power) and a noob at the track at the time.

Buttonwillow movie, 40mb, Sorenson quicktime movie.

I didn't ask, but there's a $10 off ad on their website.
