Has anyone purchased a road hazard warranty separately?...

I ordered 5 S02 PP's from Tire Rack. I figured I would go to a Firestone/Bridgestone Tire Center and get them to mount/balance the tires.
At the same time, I would purchase the road hazard warranty for these tires.
They told me that I would have to purchase the tires from them (read retail) in order to get the road hazard warranty.
I can understand this logic if Acme Tire Service was dealing Bridgestone tires, but if I go directly to one of their own outlets, purchasing the warranty should be possible.
Moreover, you have to purchase this warrantly on TOP of the install at Firestone anyway.
What gives?
Has anyone succeeded in purchasing this warranty separately? Or am I screwed on this as well?

Until I went to Firestone/Bridgestone this morning to get it mounted and they said no. I would have to purchase the tires from them.
Something's fishy, but if you guys have a place in Southern California for this, I welcome those suggestions.
I'm game for driving wherever (within reason) to get this warranty. I live in L.A.
BTW, the Firestone dealer was on Highland Avenue off Sunset Blvd in Hollywood.

Aha!
It amazes me what lengths you have to go to get something like this done.
I called Bridgestone's Consumer Affairs line (800-367-3872) and explained my situation...calmly!
They got the Firestone dealer on the line that I went to this morning, and what do you know, I can get the warranty.
The price tag is $36/tire. Worth the money on a $247 tire. They apparently go on the tire size, which in my case is 235/45 R17.
Their excuse....oh, the store manager is new. Bull****. He's been there for at least 1 month.
My next question...is $36/tire a ripoff? hehe.

I purchased road hazard on the RE040's at $25 per tire from my local Firestone dealer. No hassles at all. They checked over the tires and that was all.
However, I've found that Firestone has a hard time getting the RE040. I've been waiting for almost a month for a pro-rate on an RE040 (running on the spare now) after I found a nice big fat drywall screw really near to the sidewall of one of my RE040's.
