Has anyone replaced their brake pads w/ after-market pads?

If so, whose? I'm probably just going to replace my worn rears w/ stock pads, but I was curious if anyone had found an alternative and, if so, how it's working out.<p><a href="mailto:jim@vipmail.com?Subject=AudiWorld Post">Jim</a>, <a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3894">'00 Silver S4</a>

I've replaced mine with Porterfield R4 pads. I believe that right now Porterfields are the only option for aftermarket pads with the stock calipers. I've heard that both Pagid and Hawk are supposed to be coming out with some shortly (otherwise you may have to go custom). Installation is a breeze.
These pads do a good job with grip and were holding up nicely on the track (for the time I was on the track) and seem to wear fairly well. They are, however, EXTREMELY noisy around town. So much so that I may switch the pads back until the next event.
Porterfield also makes a street compound for the stock S4 calipers (R4-S), but I have no experience with that.

I'll try the Porterfield R4-S street compound pads. Given that I've only done one track event and wasn't planning on doing more than 2-3/year, I want a noise level I could live with on a daily basis.
Don't suppose you could recommend a reseller?<p><a href="mailto:jim@vipmail.com?Subject=AudiWorld Post">Jim</a>, <a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3894">'00 Silver S4</a>

They stop the car pretty quick with nary a protest. My installer chamfered the front sides of all the pads to reduce the squeal. Incredible stopping power, my instructor said my brakes were too grabby.

I bet you can get them for dirt ****ing cheap at Adirondack Auto brokers if you have the part numbers. Or, you can give them a call and see if they happen to have S4 pads in.
Pagid blacks are a good streetable high performance pad. I have very little squeal with them. They wear quickly though, especially at the track. Mind you, this isn't an apples to apples comparison, due to the fact that I run with Alcon calipers.
