Has Audi acknowledged the tranny problem....
I'm thinking about an '01 S4 6 speed, but all these tranny problems has me really concerned. I realize the car will be under warranty, but having to continue taking a car in for service stinks. Even with a loaner, it's still a major PITA. BTDT with a previous car. Plus, there's only one local dealer, and they don't have a great reputation.
Does anyone know for certain if/when the change to new tranny parts was made? I looked in the archives, but didn't see anything really recent.
Thanks....

Minor so far, but dealer "can't duplicate"...uh huh.
Trouble getting into first occasionally - like it won't go at all unless car can roll forward/back. Weak 2nd gear sychro.

There has been a slight frequency of the 2nd gear in these transmissions
Please remember that these are not totally new transmissions...they are the same one that was sold in the UrS4 (92-94 or 95 S4). It is also very similar to the Porsche 968/944 transmission. In the Istook/Aines race car this weekend we got a slider gear jammed in 2nd gear..so first and second wouldn't work. We fixed it..and it wasn't that bad visibly..but it still would not go into first/second.
I would not be overly concerned with the S4 6pd transmission...it is pretty sound. Yes, some people have had issues...but zillions more have not.
