Headlight question

Headlight question
This is probably a really stupid question but.. I bought a 2000 S4 2 days ago and noticed last night when I turned on the lights that the switch doesnt really do anything besides turn on the lights for the dash etc.. seems my low beams are the 2 small light on the outside, and the highbeams are all 4 on? Does this sound right? I have nothing to compare it to so I thought Id ask here. Thanks

well usually the first lights turn on the parking lights and the next turns on lows
and the paddle flipping the paddle away from u turns on the highs, but possibly the previous owner did a headlight mod and soldered some wires to allow all lights to work

I really dont understand you
your gauges are always lit iirc. When turning on the lights first click is the parking lights aka amber lights and the tail lights. One more click will turn on your headlights and to turn on your high beams your push the turn signal stalk forward making all 4 lights come on.

Re: I really dont understand you
Well I start the car, the "low"beams are on, small lights. Then I click the headlight stalk and it iluminates my dashboard and my lights flicker but dont get brighter. And then I can use the turn signal to turn on the high beams. But I dont see a difference between just haveing the car started and turning the lights "on"? I only notice a difference when I turn the brights on. I was asking if this was normal since this is the first S4 Ive owned. Before this I had 2002+ A4, TT and A6 and they have auto lights and a different switch

I guess Im just askinf if the 2 small lights are the main headlights and when all 4 go on they are high beam? or are all 4 on in low beam as well? And all 4 bet brighter in high beam mode?

Only guess I can take after reading all responses is
you bought a Canadian car, your running halogen instead of Xenon, so when the daytime running lights are on, the projectors are at low power, then you turn on the low beam headlights, and they seem to do nothing because halogen just plain sucks.
Does your car have fog lights in the front? If no, welcome to Canuck land.

I win! Ive never had the pride of actually being right about something on the S4 board
I am from Toronto, I upgraded to Xenon (as per my sig). I find it is a must, as the halogens are garbage. I also think they look like crap.
P.S. since you are new at this, there is also a Canadian forum, which can provide some good help, as some answers may be different for american cars. Perfect example is your headlight question. The US S4's came oem with xenons and fogs, we Canadians don't get the luxury of getting screwed with the often aimed too low auto-leveling xenons. *snickers*
