I think Bentley puts a ticker in their software so that you need to re-register over time. I had...
to reinstall my software on Tuesday and had a 505 error. I called their 800 number and they walked me throught the process. They will likely want to know the error code that you are getting prior to the activation key step.
They had me unistall everything and walked me throught some additional steps which resolved the problem. Either way, if you are having a strange issue with their software, they will want to know and will try to help you fix the bug.
They've been pro-active at ensuring that their software does not get bought and resold without their knowledge (i.e. eBay). It's a bit of a hassle, but it ensures that you are the legit owner of their product. Good luck and please update AW members on the fix.

2nd call their tech support and mention the error you keep getting
their support is pretty good and it's FREE.
I assume you removed the software before, make sure there is nothing left, check the registry (if you're comfortable with it) and search for 'Bentley', if you find something ... delete it. Before doing so, make a backup of your registery in case you mess up something.

I had the same problem. You need to browse to...
...C:\BentleyPubs\eBahn directory via Explorer and launch "remove_b5.exe" application. This should completely get rid of the program on your computer and will allow you to reinstall it again on your machine.
