Default HELP. Bizzare shifting problem. Lost 5th and 6th gear out of no where...

After driving for over an hour i was exiting a tool booth and when i shifted from 4th to 5th (very easy it was snowing) the shifter went all the way over to the correct place, but I got third. With the shifter in the right place to grab 6th i get fourth.

In neutral the shifter is spring loaded pushing to the left but falls slack to the right (in the 5/6 position).

R, 1, 2, 3, 4 all fine - no grinding etc.

I pulled the shifter apart and everything is connected and appears ok (Toy Guy shifter), but moving lever to the right does not move the linkage arm to the left as it should to engage 5/6.

I assume that something blew in the linkage, but it seems a little bizzare to me and I have never explored this part of the B5. Any thoughts, comments etc. are gretly appreciated.

Tim

Default i love when no one helps, unscrew the shift **** pull up on the boot, take the two screws out and

look at the linkage, soemthing is probably loose.

Default I had this happen to a customer...

The rod on the top of the trans rubber boot broke. There is a 10mm bolt on the passenger side of the trans the helps the shifter hold the neutral position. There is also a plastic ball on the drives side that attaches them together. I would look up with a flashlight and a mirror and see if anything is loose.
Hope this helps

Thanks. I pulled the whole shifter but everything is fine from that perspective.

Default Yeah, been actually driving it that way - think Tech@Tischer may be on the right track.

The shifting is fine, just doesnt engage 5/6...its weird and hard to describe. The shifter only flops one way.

Thanks very much for the thoughts and the help - I appreciate it.
