Help! Drivers window fell into door...

When putting the drivers side front window up, I heard a loud click as it reached the top (fully closed). Not knowing whether the click came from window or possibly something on the road, I pushed the button for window down, and the window reacted going up-down-up-down like it was having a seizure, then finally it fell all the way in.
1) Has anyone had this happen? What is the best way to temporarily suspend the window in the up-position? I live in an apt building with common underground garage and fear that if left open I will be subject to vandalism.
2) Any idea how much it should cost to fix this?
Thanks in advance to anyone with some insight into this.

You have snapped the cable on the window regulator that hold is up. Lucky for you it's an easy fix if your handy. The "seizure" was the broken cable getting twised about the pully.
The part your looking for is called a window regulator.

That was the first thing I found on google, but the prices seem solid. I would also check ebay. I replaced a passenger side one last summer on a jeep. Took about 1-2 hours to fix. Take a look in the tech articles for a guide to taking off the door panel, I also wrote one up on here the other day but the tech article will have pictures.
I would try and keep your existing motor if it still works, this way all the windows should still be operating at the same speed.
Best of Luck.
