Default unless it's a rock wedged in the valve opening,

you need to get the tire re-mounted, with a new valve stem

Default is it from the base of the stem or from the valve? if it's in the valve itself and you have access

to a good air pressure source (compressor or tank) then you can actually change the valves. Might be worth it to you to avoid a trip to the tire shop if it's the valve itself.

You'll need a valve removal tool but they are cheap.

Default I turned the inside of the valve clockwise and this seemed to stop it

is there a special tool to turn the valve?
These are SSR valve stems on my brand new Comps

Default read above - the tool can be found by the bike tires at sporting goods stores or at auto parts chain

i would bet walmart has them, too.

Default Yep you're looking for a "valve stem tool"

Maybe one like this - the far end has a square notch in it that allows you to screw in/out the valve core. The threaded parts are for repairing the inner and outer threads of the valve stem.

Or this one just puts them in or takes the cores out.

Default It's probably a cracked rubber gasket at the base of the valve. Happened to me a few times, I think

the wheel cleaner I used was drying out the rubber.

Default Just get a new valve stem. I think that they can be replaced w/o removing the tire.

Any service station that changes tires will have a valve stem tool just for this. It shouldn't be more than $5 or $10 and 5 minutes of your time.
