Hi gang,
I've been searching the archives to no avail. Here's my question: Anybody know if (1) the tip trans oil is servicable, (2) what kind of oil would/should I use, and (3) how the heck do you fill the tranny? I have a small oil leak coming from right behind my engine (hope it's not the rear main seal, but I'm 50% sure it is) and the oil is clear, like engine oil. What is this stuff? Doesn't look nor smell like normal auto tranny oil.
Sincerely,
Keoni
PS. I know my Benz's tranny is a sealed unit, non-servicable (except by the dealer), so I'm wondering if Audi's the same way.

See the A8 forum especially posts by PaulW and JimR.
PaulW has a site with details of the procedure <a href="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/auto_transmission/autotranservicing.html">here</a>.

the A8 tranny. It appears to me that you would have to remove the entire pan to drain the fluid or suck it out of the fill hole.
My dealer claims they will only mess with the fluid if there is a leak or other problem. I would take it to the dealer - sorry; don't have access to the Bentley at work...

he said the trainny is sealed, unless i am experiencing major slow shifts or problems, he doesn't recommend doing any work. he'll do it if i insist, but if there's no problem, there's no reason to change it.
so yes, it is sealed. (per dealer)

The Tip has a lifetime service-free set-up....I, too, wanted the fluid changed after two years and 25K.....dealer indicated that it would take a DAY to extract fluid and change....not necessary or needed at this point.....about the oil leak.....just noticed a leak in the same spot your talking about.....it is engine oil not transmission fluid....rob

and my engine oil was pretty brown. Just changed the oil (bought the car second-hand), so now both are clear. I've never seen clear tranny oil (more like motor oil than auto tranny fluid).
Any clue as to what kind of tranny oil this sealed box uses?
