Default Hey Taner and you other track folk. What tires do you use on your track rims?

Looking to buy some dedicated track wheels and was curious what you all are using for tire size/brand. I'm pretty set on SSR Comps for the wheels, though debating 17" vs. 18".

Default I run Kumho V700's (either Victoracer or Ecsta - most recent set is Ecsta)

And I have 17" SSR Comps... you will save yourself a great deal of $$ going w/ 17" wheels, since the tires will be cheaper ;-)

Of course, if you have ginormous brakes, you'll need 18" rims..

Default If you're driving to/from the track on these tires,

I recommend Yokohama A032R. Good tire life, and they actually grip in the wet. Ultimate dry grip is plenty high enough unless you're autocrossing competitively.

If you're new to track days and haven't done a driving school yet, I'd suggest staying on your street tires for the first couple of events at least. You'll learn alot more about your and your car's abilities, in that order.

Have fun!

Default Go 17" for track....18s will cost you an arm and a leg, not worth the perf difference.

I've used Yokohama A032Rs and now Toyo RA-1s.

Both aren't the best "grippy" tires, but are great if you don't have much experience with R rubber (coming from street tires).

regards,
Liam

Default Those were the ones I was looking at. Stock width, right?

I didn't see them available in anything but 225/45/17. (i.e. no 235/40/17).

Default Done 2 track days, and Russell Racing 3-Day class @ Sears Point

I'm not planning on driving these on the street at all. These will be dry-only, track-only tires.

Default Alright then! 17" SSRs are the sweet way to go.

Also, I've heard nothing but good things about the Kuhmo V700 Ecstas.

Default The lightest wheels for the S4...

Racing Hart CP035 17x7.5 ET30 = 14.1lbs.

I'm running the Kumho Victoracer in 225x45x17.

LIGHT and sticky.
