Default Hitachi MAF harness wires...

For Reference:
Plastic MAF Plug for Hitachi- 1j0-973-705
Rubber Boot for Hitachi Plug (Covers wires) - 443-906-102-G
Wires (for the Hitachi Plug) - 000-979-126

The dealer gave me MAF wires #000-979-133's which have a square head and won't fit into the hitachi plug. They said that #000-979-133 are are a direct crossover to #000-979-126
but the OEM wires off my current harness are smaller & round.

Do I have to mod the wires in any way?

Default It seems like I have to get these wires from a VW dealership..

for some reason, I'm not surprised.

Default If you have a old dead bosch maf, you can hack off the sensor and use the remains to make an adapter

I always avoid cutting stock wiring if I can.

Default Ooo, that wouldn't work if you needed the actual MAF signal. A butt-end connector on my RS4/S8

MAF sensor added enough resistance to cut the readings in 1/2 of actual. Idling at 2.8gps and WOT at 175gps messes things up if the code is expecting an accurate reading =-)

Default Was that a crimp or a solder butt-end?

I've never had any issues with maf readings, currently 3.8-4.0 at idle depending on load, and in the 260s WOT with an 85mm maf.

Default Crimp with disconnect(2 crimps). On my car the signal line is double shielded

and looks like a small RG6(single strand). It appears to be very sensitive to additional resistance. Had it wired like yours initially and then had to lose the extra plug/strands and wire almost direct to get the expected reading(s).

Default Odd, would be interesting to do an ohm check on the faulty setup.

I wouldn't think the cable requirements would be much different between hitachi and bosch, so they should both have the same problems, no matter which way you are converting.


This is the maf sensor side before I cleaned out the copper residue and pretinned the copper pads:

After that I pretinned the sensor wires, then did the "surface mount" silver bearing solder job in the original picture.

I never pulled back the boot on the original connector so I don't know about the shielding on '00 cars, but I never noticed any at the ECU end while poking through those wires.

Default basically just install a new MAF harness for my hitachi MAF.

I think that I'm see low voltage due to some broken wire strands so I'm just trying to simply replace the wires, plug and rubber grommet. I mean the whole setup is like $10 so why the hell not.

I have the correct rubber grommet and plug but the wires the dealer said would fit, don't. The Hitachi MAF wires have a round connector while the ones the dealer said would fit have a square connector.

Alas, I'm just simply trying to locate wires that will fit into a Hitachi MAF plug.

Default Mine came as a kit from AWE, so I can't be much help for PNs,

but I tried STFA, and got conflicting answers, looks like the best bet would be to cut off your maf plug and go to a VW dealer, they should have a repair kit and be able to match up the connectors for you.

If I find more solid answers I'll reply here.
