hmm.. how hard it is to pull the tranny ? any writeups ? could i even do it on jack stands?

for the part about new PPs not needing to be reset. Make certain you know what the SAC mechanism should look like when properly set, and I would strongly recommend a tranny jack.
I used a floor jack with some strapping to keep the tranny from falling off of the jack, but half of the strapping broke by the time I was done from the excessive wieght of the tranny (~170 Lbs). This is bad, even if it doesn't hit you it could tear up things like the pilot bearing.
Many have said they think pulling engine + tranny is easier than pulling just the tranny out from underneath.

charged for labor for pulling the motor vs pulling the tranny. But I guess if you don't have a lift it could well be a whole different story.
