I know this is in the archives, but maybe someone has an updated technique of gutting.

Best tools to use? easiest way to get in there and hack?

I don't want to cut them, so I'm probably just going to go in on the angle... Or is that a bad idea?

Thanks for any tips you might have...

Default Well they are already off the car... just need some useful tips of how to get the honeycomb metal

out. By stfa I found a 10" drill bit, screw drivers and a couple other things... wondering what else is useful when gutting.

Default if you have access to an air line (lucky me, i do) use an air chissel

An air chissel will blow right through the honeycomb catalyst. took me 10 min each side. basicly the steps are as follows... with a medium sized spade bit (1" +/- a little) drill a hole or two right down the middle of the honeycomb. then start in the middle with a air chissel and work your way out chipping off/cutting all of the honeycomb out. then sand/wire wheel/grind of whats left sticking to the walls. good luck

Default *Update* Wellp... A lot harder than it looks... So far I have a few holes drilled in one side.

I have a ten inch 3/8 bit. Then I am using a screw driver and a hammer just banging it in.

Is there a technique to pull the junk out? It seems like im just hitting it and it's not going anywhere.

I have been at it for about a half hour.. and not much to show for it.

tech section says 1 hour, took me at least 3... a 1.5" wide sharp chissel and a BFH work well.
