This is in my VW.
Why would the steering wheel be crooked when going straight. No, the car hasn't been in an accident. I've had it aligned plenty of times before, but there seems to be a natural tilt (approx 7 degrees to the right) of the steering wheel.
Next time I go in, what do I need to say to the guy specifically instead of asking for an alignment only.
What does this involve. I don't want them to take off the steering wheel and rotate it 7 degrees CCW and stick it back on. I doubt that solves anything.
Tire wear is fine, but the annoying thing is, that when you do straighten out the wheel, the car heads towards the oncoming traffic. Not good.
I'm just trying to figure out if there is more to this problem other than an incompetent alignment job.

you would extend one tie rod and shorten the other. That moves the center link and, with it, the steering gear; but the alignment is left alone. More exactly, the alignment is readjusted to the same setting. I have no idea if this works for your VW, but there must be an equivalent procedure. Just make sure they *write down* to center up the wheel. Any competant alignment shop will know exactly what you're talking about. FWIW, I never trust the dealer with my car's alignment. Go wherever the Porsche Club recommends. If they can please that bunch of ****-retentive geeks, they know what they're doing.
